We live in a time of endless images, recycled references, mislabeled objects, and AI-generated noise. It is getting harder to know what is real, where something came from, and who made it. Important context gets stripped away. Credit gets lost. History gets flattened.

Modefact exists to help build a better source of truth for fashion and design: one that is open, evolving, and shaped by the people who care enough to document it well.

Modefact is meant to be participatory. Anyone can contribute to the archive by adding new things they discover in the world, submitting edits when something is mislabeled or incomplete, adding context, commentary, and attribution, and curating and sharing collections, references, and connections.

We are inspired by projects like Wikipedia and the Internet Archive, and by the idea that knowledge gets stronger when many people help maintain it.

Our hope is that Modefact becomes a trusted reference for fashion and design: a place people return to for provenance, inspiration, research, and discovery. A place where the record is richer, the references are better, and creators, both emerging and established, can have more ownership over their work, history, and data.

Modefact is living by design. It grows through contribution, revision, and care. If you see something missing, add it. If something is wrong, help fix it. If you know the story behind an object, share it.
