Baum und Pferdgarten Copenhagen Spring 2023

Helle Hestehave and Rikke Baumgarten presented their spring collection on the street outside of their new Copenhagen store. While the shop is designed to look like an apartment, the show’s strong opening look, a purple leather jacket worn over a mini coat dress with an ’80s vibe, was definitely meant for going out and turning heads. “It’s really a powerful woman we sent out there,” noted Hestehave. Baum und Pferdgarten is known for prints, and while there were some in this collection, like a leopard spot used on a very desirable white coat, the emphasis on saturated color was more effective, suggesting that the designers are making a fresh start. “It was fun for us to work again with color-blocking and find some new thing to do instead of all of our prints,” said Baumgarten. There was material blocking as well; a fantastic trench had a black lace back and collar. Baumgarten explained that they had been thinking a lot about the concept of time, asking questions like “ ‘What does timelessness mean when you look at clothes?’ Timelessness is not the same as a basic wardrobe for us, timeless for us is something that you see today.”
