For each of his four collections, Yusuke Takahashi has used the term “knit-ware” as an inspiration for his designs. The first part of the portmanteau is self-explanatory: All of the Issey Miyake–alum’s clothes are 3D, computer developed knits. The second part speaks to his philosophy of clothing as a “container for the body,” as he explained over email. “The word is used to describe an object which holds or contains something, such as pottery, cutlery or even data,” he says. “For CFCL, knit-ware means that clothes have the elegance of pottery and the functionality of ware.”
