Lemaire Menswear Autumn 2020

Several senior editors ruefully reported that they were unable to attend this Lemaire presentation due to the irreconcilable dispute between distance and French industrial action. All suspected this was a great shame, and in that they were all absolutely correct. Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran work steadily and surely in order to, as Lemaire said, “progressively bring new layers to existing pieces.” Although they are bent to the yoke of seasonal presentation, they do not pendulum back and forth but instead see their development as a carefully gentle arc. Alterations in direction this season included adaptations of traditional forms of workwear from Asia—Japan, Vietnam, China—as tools through which to subtly redevelop their late mid-century vision of refined masculine style. This was not exclusively for men, however; there were several recut pieces from this collection shot on women to show the versatility of their vision.
