Lemaire Spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear

The Lemaire men and women were united on the runway for the first time today. This wasn’t another John Galliano for Maison Margiela show, which was just about as gender-unspecified as it gets this morning. But designers Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran’s men’s and women’s worlds are one universe. To prove the point, Tran said backstage, they dressed one of the female models in an unaltered men’s look. On the runway moments later it wasn’t entirely clear of which one she spoke. Indeed, describing Lemaire’s clothes can be a daunting task; their aesthetic is well established and unwavering. Of course, this cogent collection wasn’t without its notes of difference from previous seasons: their first pair of jeans, apparently, which were easy to like with their generous cut. An unusually bold black-and-white dot print used for a top and skirt worn with a matching scarf, also good-looking. A new pants silhouette with pirate lacing up the calves.
