At Our Legacy, creative director Christopher Nying is focusing on the brand’s strengths and revisiting some of its classic shapes with unexpected or seasonal twists: The humble button-down went sheer, with the print’s bolder face inside, for example, and fall’s lumberjack touchstone was slightly skewed. Hand-painted “skid” motifs on the brand’s best-selling boots nodded to the slippery slope we all negotiate as we try to navigate adolescence—although, given the state of the world, the idea transposes neatly in the macro sense too. “It’s about the turning point when authorities become antagonists, or you actually have antagonists,” Nying and Our Legacy cofounder Jockum Hallin explained, finishing each other’s thoughts. “There’s that feeling, when you start to realize the world is darker and more complex than you initially thought.”
