Amid destination Resort shows and wild branding events, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia are taking a different tack with their Resort collection: “[We’re] making it about the woman, not the brand,” said Sachin. The Ahluwalias have been listening to their customers around the world, and shifting their strategy when necessary to better serve them. For Resort, that’s highlighted in the casting of a woman well over 20 as a model—this time, it’s the gorgeous Helena Christensen—and a renewed focus on the eveningwear pieces. With their woman in mind, the Ahluwalias have streamlined their silhouettes into figure-flattering columns, full-skirted gowns, and the occasional mini or midi. In keeping their shapes simple, the couple have amped up their color palette, with a rich pink and bright cherry red making up a bulk of the collection alongside pops of lemon, cobalt, and blush. There is no shortage of sequins or beading, with paillettes of all sizes adorning dresses and jumpsuits. The tiniest of glass beads give a delicate sheen to even the simplest cocktail frock.
