Simon Miller Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear

In the past few years, Daniel Corrigan and Chelsea Hansford have grown Simon Miller from a denim line to a full ready-to-wear operation, including accessories (like wooden jewelry and their signature Bonsai bag) and a soon-to-be-released shoe collection. They specialize in not-basic basics with earthy, interesting details lifted from Japan or the American Southwest. Even better, their collections are typically zeitgeist-free—no step-hem jeans or gigantic hoodies here. The Dutch Flower Line served as the backdrop for their Fall ’17 presentation, and they matched colors from the collection with piles of flowers strewn across the floor. Color is usually the starting point for these designers, and they’ve long had a proclivity for muted, natural shades, like mustard, brick red, and olive green. Fall included their first-ever pink (which was more of a faded red), and with it more feminine touches, like the ruffled trim along the hem of a slipdress. It was a welcome change; past collections leaned more androgynous, but Hansford said they wanted to find a middle ground.
