Chelsea Hansford is her own best advertisement for the clothes she designs. Her brand Simon Miller was born from her deep love of California and a fascination with its yesteryears, specifically the 1970s. At today’s presentation, Hansford wore a pair of lipstick red faux-leather paper bag pants and a slouchy red sweater straight from the new lineup; she looked amazing. Simon Miller clothes transport you to the West Coast, warmer weather and sandy landscapes dotted with retro architecture. And speaking of retro, Hansford once again created a vibe-y, vintage narrative, this one based around an old liquor store deep in the Valley and a 1973 white Cadillac Eldorado. Actress and singer Rainey Qualley stars in the look book for a collection Hansford titled “Chili Sauce,” hence the bold crimson getup she was rocking this morning. The very Tarantino-esque imagery features buttery faux-leather wrap skirts with Western-style belts, faux-leather button-down shirts, and cool dresses and camis printed with what looks like a mustard and orange floral tapestry straight from Grandma’s house. Colors are bold, inspired by the paint jobs on vintage cars. Hansford’s long faux-leather trenches with shearling collars and gold buttons are particularly appealing, as are the jeans with a subtle patch of crystals adorning one front pocket. Crystals are also incorporated onto shoes and bags, which will no doubt sell as well as the signature platform go-go boots and puffin totes.
