Simon Miller Resort 2018

For their first Resort collection, Simon Miller co-designers Chelsea Hansford and Daniel Corrigan channeled two iconic artists of the ’70s: Slim Aarons and David Hockney. They shot the looks by a pool à la Aarons’s most famous poolside photographs, and the palette was drawn from Hockney’s richly saturated pool paintings—turquoise, orange, chartreuse, teal. On spare silhouettes like tunics and ribbed knits, those supercharged colors felt chic and oddly calm, not garish. You won’t have to wear those clothes by the pool, either. Like many designers, Hansford and Corrigan treated Resort as a collection of year-round, super-wearable pieces instead of vacationwear. For instance, some of the ribbed knits came in a special dry wool that’s often used in hiking gear because it can keep you warm in harsh climates or cool in the sun. And there was lots of linen, which is no longer just reserved for summer, especially now that the seasons are so out of whack.
